REGISTRATION FOR ONLINE CONGRESS ORGANIC UKRAINE 2020

Greetings from the participants of the IV International Congress "Organic Ukraine 2020"

“Congress Organic Ukraine 2020” has gathered like-minded people from all over the world who are directing their efforts in the organic production development.
Each participant today is confident that Ukraine has an «organic» perspective, and we all need to unite our intentions, strengthen each other, find our effective niche in the organic business –we have gathered exactly for this.
The main thing is we have potential to grow – the international community confirms the demand for Ukrainian organic products, and the domestic market is only beginning to form.

There is a sincere wish to buy organic products and it’s just a dream for a small and medium-sized farmer - to comply with the principles of organic production, to take care of the land, to have economic stability, and at the same time to offer a complete organic consumer basket for Ukrainians and guests of our state.

Consume organic products in Ukraine - this motto we see the main for the coming years. Today, there is a wide range of Ukrainian organic food products available in retail chains and specialized stores. What is the next step? To promote the value of organic products – to buy it, and inspire farmers to engage in organic production - to grow and process it. To harmonize demand and supply systemically and confidently.
I am delighted to welcome the guests of the IV International Congress Organic Ukraine 2020! On behalf of the participants and team of the Public Union “Organic Ukraine”, I wish all the interesting discussions and mutual understanding, a common vision of the main vectors in forming and developing the organic market of Ukraine and the world.

General Manager of Organic Standard certification body

The organic world market has shown steady growth over the last 15 years, attracting more and more manufacturers and consumers, and has reached 92 billion euros in 2017.
Most Ukrainian organic products manufacturers are export oriented and certified in accordance with international standards. More often these are organic standards of the EU (Council Regulation (EC) No.834/2007 and Commission Regulation (EC) No889/2008). It should be noted that these standards are applied both for export and for the domestic organic market, which is also gradually developing.

In 2016-2018, the largest volumes of organic products exports were achieved due to agricultural raw materials. In particular, there are recorded supplies of wheat, corn, barley, oats, rye, soya, lupine, peas, flax, sunflower, rape, mustard, blueberries, apples, honey and walnuts. At the same time, exports volume of semifinished products and processed products is growing rapidly: organically certified hulled panic grass, spelt, cereals, birch sap, apple concentrate.

Ukraine’s positioning as a reliable producer and supplier of organic products is possible only in the case consolidation of the organic sector of Ukraine with the active integration of all organic market participants into it. Congress format contributes to this process and initiates discussion of hot topics among market participants

Greetings from the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine!

The organic sector again faces unexpected challenges which we will have to overcome together. But those who initially chose the path of organic agriculture chose a certain challenge and agreed to be the pioneers.
In order to help to overcome these challenges which the organic sector faces, the Swiss Confederation (as in previous 20 years) continues providing technical assistance in the frame of cooperation with Ukraine.
First of all, the new Swiss Cooperation Programme Ukraine 2020-2023 provides for support of the country’s economic development.

Читати далі ➝

The task of this domain, among others, is to improve competitiveness and growth of the agricultural sector with a focus on organic agriculture development. With this regard, Switzerland continues directing its priority efforts to facilitating market access and development of production and sale, with a special focus on SMEs. We will also expand support to the financial sector and access to finance for SMEs. Improved macro-economic conditions, a modernized regulatory framework, enforcement of the rule of law, strengthened service providers and access to financial resources will create a competitive business environment. Business and job opportunities for Ukrainian SMEs, including in conflict-affected areas and for women entrepreneurs, will increase as well as access to higher value markets. A number of technical assistance projects/programs will be funded to implement the mentioned activity areas.

Most of you are already cooperating with the new Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” which is implemented by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland) in partnership with Swiss company SAFOSO AG. The Program team got down to work at full speed and in the next three years will actively work on the main goal – growth of higher value added trade from the organic and dairy sector on the domestic and export markets. To support this Program, the new assistance project to support the Ukrainian organic sector will be launched in 2020 with the financial support of the Swiss Confederation 2020; it will be implemented by the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM). This regional project will cover several countries, including Ukraine, and focus on developing partnership between business and the technical assistance project to implement joint initiatives.

Opening the land market, recently approved by the Ukrainian Parliament, will offer new opportunities as well as challenges for organic producers. As the producers will have to accumulate significant financial resources to purchase land, demand for current assets for operating activity will grow further. For this reason, we are considering to continue the Crop Receipts Project after 2020 which has been funded by the Swiss Confederation and implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in the last 5 years. Continuation of the project will allow Ukrainian agricultural producers to use crop receipts to finance current assets, purchase machinery, seeds, etc. First “organic crop receipts” have already allowed organic producers to actively join in with this financial instrument.

I wish all us fruitful work in developing the Ukrainian organic sector! Good organic health to everyone!

Team Leader, German-Ukrainian Cooperation in the field of Organic Agriculture (COA)

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you on behalf of the German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture (COA) project, the implementing agencies AFC and IAK and our donor, the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, to the IV International «Congress Organic Ukraine 2020».
With the coronavirus pandemic rapidly changing how businesses operate across the world, many of us have taken to email, social media and video to communicate safely with each other. The organizers of this Congress have admirably decided not to cancel the event but moving it online, thus enabling the Ukrainian organic sector to interact and get the latest information.
As you are well aware, there are a range of reforms under process in Ukraine that will affect production, processing, trade and marketing of organic products.

Читати далі ➝

But the biggest challenge still is to convince customers to buy your organic product! Businesses from nearly every vertical must be staying connected with customers providing them with information on the reliability of the organic production methods, sustainability, animal welfare, availability, easy comparison with non-organic products and much more. The upcoming Congress will give you both opportunities: to get informed and updated on latest production methods and to better understand the needs of the markets. And we as COA are happy to support you in these efforts.

Let us hope that the disastrous time of Corona with so many victims and economic difficulties will at the same time also release strong and positive forces and by this enable us to work with creativity on solutions for a more sustainable society. In regard to this I would like to thank all organic operators worldwide who work hard every day, even during this COVID19 pandemic time, to ensure that organic food is available in shops and supermarkets. They are true heroes and we're deeply grateful for their endeavors!
